Two teenage boys who were lost in a canoe on the Wakarusa River on Thursday night were found unhurt around midnight.
They were found on the bank of the river about three miles east of U.S. 59, according to Steve Lewis of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department.
A Eudora man had dropped off his nephew and son near the spillway at Clinton Lake in Lawrence around 9 a.m. Thursday. The cousins floated east in a canoe toward Eudora while keeping in touch with the father by cell phone.
Around 7 p.m. he lost touch with them, got nervous and contacted officials. Fire and medical crews were dispatched to search between Clinton Lake in Lawrence and Eudora.

A fire crew happened upon the boys around midnight while looking for a place to launch a search boat. The crew spotted them on the bank of the river.
The boys’ canoe had swamped, and their cell phone was lost down the river.
