TOPEKA | Washburn University plans to begin offering in-state tuition to all incoming freshmen from Missouri in an effort to offset a decline in high school graduates in Kansas.
The university in Topeka already offers in-state tuition to residents of eight western Missouri counties, but will expand that to all of Missouri in the fall semester of 2012.
Richard Liedtke, executive director of enrollment, says recent data indicates the number of Kansas high school graduates will decline 7.1 percent through 2015.
The Topeka Capital-Journal reported Friday that Washburn's current in-state tuition is $207 per credit hour. The out-of-state rate is $470 per credit hour.
