WICHITA — Most area schools have already postponed games for tonight, including the City League, which has moved all its basketball games to Saturday.

This is the second time this season the City League has had to postpone games due to severe weather.

It's always difficult to find makeup dates, but it's especially tough at this point in the season.

"The second half of the season, any times you have to make up (games) diminishes," City League athletic director Bill Faflick said.

City League games scheduled for Jan. 13 were postponed and then made up during boys and girls tournament weeks. Faflick said he had originally considered moving those makeup games to this Saturday.

"I'm glad we didn't," Faflick said. "We decided to leave this Saturday open, just in case. Just in case."

The problems of finding makeup days are worse for swimming and wrestling because their seasons end before basketball. Next week is the City League swim meet, so all regular season duals must be completed by then. That includes the Kapaun-Heights dual scheduled for today — which was originally scheduled for Jan. 13.

Wrestling is even worse because it's difficult to find gym time. Tuesdays and Fridays are out because of basketball, Saturdays are out because most teams are in tournaments and coaches don't like Mondays because they can't practice on Sunday.

"Wrestling is really a challenge to reschedule," Faflick said.

"We'll work it through."
