WICHITA — Alert employees foiled an attempted robbery of a cash advance business Thursday, police said.
A man tried to open the door of the Advance America at 6171 E. 13th shortly before noon Thursday, Lt. Joe Schroeder said. To enter the business, customers have to be let inside a locked door. After an employee noticed through the window that the man was putting on a mask, the door remained locked.
The man then left the area on foot as 911 was called. Officers spotted him, and a foot chase began. Officers caught the 34-year-old man in the 1800 block of North Woodlawn, Schroeder said.
They found evidence linking him to the intended robbery, Schroeder said, including a mask and a replica gun he had thrown down while he was running.
He was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail.
