WICHITA — The hospitalized woman who acted like she didn't know who she was or where she lived is a 61-year-old Arkansas City resident, Wichita police said today.
She always knew her name, Lt. Ken Landwehr said, she just didn't want to acknowledge it until police confronted her with her name and address Wednesday.
She came to Wichita with a friend on Tuesday and then went for a walk, appearing at the front door of Fire Station 4 at Meridian and Irving sometime before 11 a.m. Because she had bruises, a firefighter suspected she had been assaulted.
"I think she fell down... at her home," Landwehr said.
She was taken to Wesley Medical Center for treatment and remains hospitalized. Police learned of her identity when a friend in Arkansas City recognized her.
The woman has mental issues, Landwehr said, so no criminal charges are being contemplated. Police consider the case closed.
