WICHITA — Police said this evening they have identified a woman who rang the doorbell at Fire Station 4 at Meridian and Irving on Tuesday and asked for help.
The woman, who did not have identification or keys in her possession, was taken to Wesley Medical Center for treatment. She was unable to tell police her name.
The woman's name was not released by police. More information about the case is scheduled to be released Thursday.
When she walked to the station, the women had bruises, leading the firefighter who first met with her to think she had been assaulted, police Lt. Ken Landwehr said.
Never miss a local story.
But closer inspection indicated the bruises are more consistent with prior medical treatment, not physical abuse.
"She did not appear to have fallen — nothing was dirty," Landwehr said. "She was very clean."
Investigators said earlier that they think the woman lives near the fire station because she walked to it.
