ST. JOSEPH | A St. Joseph man with a long criminal history is now charged in the shooting death of another man last year.
The Buchanan County prosecutor's office charged 25-year-old Jered Jerome Houston with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the death of 56-year-old Charley Lonjers.
Lonjers was found shot to death Aug. 16 near a home where he worked.
The St. Joseph News-Press reports that Houston is already jailed on robbery and armed criminal action charges after an apartment robbery last year. He has also served prison time for assault, forgery and drug charges.
A St. Joseph investigator says in a probable cause statement that a weapon believed to be used in Lonjers' death was connected to Houston.
