WICHITA — The 24-year-old man who died after being struck by a car on I-235 early Saturday morning has been identified as Steven M. Wittrig.
Wittrig and a friend rode a party bus to the Denim and Diamonds club, at 4600 West Kellogg, on Friday night and then decided to walk home from there, Lt. Doug Nolte said.
"They live in the area," Nolte said.
The two men climbed over a security fence next to the interchange linking Kellogg with I-235 and then began to cross I-235, Nolte said. Wittrig was first, and he was hit by a northbound car about 2:10 a.m.

Wittrig died later at a local hospital. Both pedestrians were intoxicated at the time of the collision, Nolte said, and the driver is being tested for drugs or alcohol as a matter of standard procedure.
