LAWRENCE | A baby girl born in Lawrence may be known as "Ellee" for the rest of her life, thanks to the way she came into the world.
Alyssa Lynn Leming was born Friday in an elevator at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, as her parents hurried to get to a hospital room.
Patrick and Crystal Leming of Lecompton had planned to have the baby in Olathe. But when her contractions became serious, they went to a fire station, and an ambulance took them to Lawrence Memorial. Crystal Leming says it was only an hour between the start of severe contractions and the birth.
She told The Lawrence Journal-World on Monday that when the elevator door opened, she said "Can somebody please catch her head?" And the 5-pound, 11-ounce healthy baby was born.
