Prices go up at Sedgwick County Zoo

The Sedgwick County Zoo raised its admission fee by 50 cents on Jan. 1.
Admission now is $12 for adults and $7.50 for children and seniors. Previously, it was $11.50, $7 for children and seniors.
Zoo memberships are more expensive, too. The cost will be $65 a year for two people, up by $5. Other membership levels are available.
The increase was needed to help offset costs at the zoo in a tough economy, said spokeswoman Christan Baumer. Also, 25 cents of every gate admission and $2.50 of every membership now will go directly toward wildlife conservation, she said.
"It's going to be a substantially larger amount of money we're going to be able to raise to support conservation efforts, which is where we feel we should have been all these years," she said.
