Two people were reported hospitalized Friday after fire heavily damaged a Lee's Summit home.
Assistant Fire Chief Jim Eden said in a written statement that both were taken to the hospital as a "precaution" and declined to provide further information about their conditions.
Firefighters answered a report of an electrical fire at 7:46 a.m. at a house in the 900 block of SE 5th Terrace. They reported heavy smoke coming from the two-story residence.
Told there were two people still inside, firefighters placed a ladder to a second floor window and pulled them out. Other firefighters fought the blaze on the first floor, bringing it under control by 8:11 a.m.
The fire cause heavy damage to the kitchen, and heat and smoke damage throughout the rest of the house.
The cause remained under investigation Friday.
