WICHITA — Maybe the pajama-clad thief was too quick for his own good. Or maybe there is another reason his would-be caper Wednesday night didn't end the way he almost certainly anticipated.
A clerk at Cordova's Liquor Store, 1103 E. Lincoln, told police the man came into the store just before 6 p.m., dressed in clothing that included a pair of green pajama pants with cartoon characters on them.
He grabbed a bottle of liquor and began to leave the store. The clerk intervened, telling him he needed to pay for the liquor.
In response, the man pulled a black handgun from a pocket and tried to point it at the clerk — but he slipped and fell instead.
Never miss a local story.
Apparently embarrassed by his fall, police said, the man simply crawled out of the store and then walked away. He is a black man about 5-feet-5 and 160 pounds, with possible bruises resulting from the fall.
Anyone with information about the suspect should call 316-268-4646 or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
