WICHITA — A 26-year-old man trying to be a peacemaker was stabbed as a result of his efforts at a west Wichita restaurant early today, police said.
The man was at Rene's Restaurant, 677 N. Eisenhower, near Central and I-235, when two men in the restaurant began agitating with other customers at about 2:30 a.m., police said.
When the victim tried to calm the two men down, he was spit upon. The clash continued in the parking lot, where the victim was stabbed in the abdomen.
Officers arriving at the restaurant were told of the two suspects, who were trying to flee the area on foot. One of them was subdued with a Taser when he tried to climb a fence and refused orders to surrender, police said.
The men, ages 33 and 32, were booked into the Sedgwick County Jail.
"Looking at the time (of the incident), it's safe to say alcohol was a factor," Lt. Doug Nolte said.
The victim was taken to Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis with a potentially serious stab wound and was admitted for treatment, police said.
