SPRINGFIELD, Mo. | A former southwest Missouri police officer will spend 10 years in prison without a chance for parole for sexual exploitation of a child and possessing child pornography.
Twenty-eight-year-old Casey Nanez was sentenced Thursday in federal court after pleading guilty in September to the charges.
The Joplin Globe reports that the McDonald County Sheriff's Department began investigating in June 2009 after receiving allegations that Nanez had sexual contact with one or more underage girls.
Nanez was a reserve deputy with the McDonald County Sheriff's Department at the time and had previously been a deputy town marshal in Noel.
Federal prosecutors took over the case after investigators found child pornography on a computer seized from Nanez's home.
