JEFFERSON CITY | Republican John Lamping will have to wait a little bit longer to know if he officially has won a St. Louis area state Senate seat.
Democrat Barbara Fraser has requested a re-count after Lamping defeated her by 133 votes out of more than 61,000 cast in the Senate District 24 election last month. That's a difference of less than 0.3 percentage points.
Missouri law allows losing candidates to request a re-count if the gap is less than 1 percentage point.
The secretary of state's office says it has until Dec. 22 to certify the results of the recount.
Never miss a local story.
History is not on Fraser's side. Secretary of state spokeswoman Laura Egerdal says the largest change in recent state Senate recounts has been six votes.
