SPRINGFIELD, Mo. | The Springfield Fire Department says one person has died after an airplane crash at the southwest Missouri city's downtown airport.
Two other people were taken to St. John's Hospital in Springfield after the accident Wednesday morning.
The Springfield News-Leader reports that the pilot told fire crews the plane crashed as it was landing, but it was not known where the flight originated.
Assistant Fire Chief Randy Villines says the exact make and model of the small, single-engine plane is not known.
Nate Adams, who works near the airport, told the News-Leader that a man was out of the plane when he got to the scene. He helped get one woman out of the wreckage, but another woman was trapped inside until rescue crews arrived.
