Authorities have released the names of the four men found dead in a van at Santa Fe Lake in Butler County on Tuesday.
Augusta Director of Public Safety Tyler Brewer said three of the four listed the Union Rescue Mission in Wichita as their home: Michael C. Williams, 61; Robert H. Moses, 55; and Paul E. Stilwell, 57. Donald L. Wescott Jr., 46, listed his address as 1614 Anita in Wichita.
The men were found in the 15-passenger van shortly after 10 a.m. Tuesday by a park caretaker.
Blood tests confirmed the men died of carbon monoxide poisoning, Brewer said. They had turned on the 1993 Ford van to ward off the overnight chill.
Never miss a local story.
"They left the van running, and there must be an exhaust leak somewhere," Brewer said. "The caretaker doesn't like people sleeping in their cars just for this reason."
Williams, Moses and Stilwell had been staying at the rescue mission "for quite some time, off and on," Brewer said.
