In a short speech at this morning’s city council meeting, Mayor Carl Brewer sought to reassure Wichitans that the city is doing everything it can to retain aviation companies and keep jobs.
"We're worried just like you are,” he said. “We can assure you we’re not going to leave any stone unturned..."
Brewer, who worked at Spirit AeroSystems and retains a position there, said that every job — aviation and otherwise — is important to the city. The city can’t share everything it is doing with the public, he said.
"We're going to do the very best job we can possibly do,” he said.
Brewer’s remarks come as Louisiana reportedly is trying to lure away Hawker Beechcraft. The company and Machinists union officials plan to meet today with Gov. Mark Parkinson in Topeka.
