WICHITA — Bridget Newberry will serve the next year on probation for her own neglect of a daughter who was raped and set on fire by her stepfather.
Sedgwick County District Judge Joseph Bribiesca imposed a six-month prison sentence and put Newberry on probation for child endangerment.
The 31-year-old mother pleaded guilty last month to not properly caring for her 10-year-old daughter after she was set on fire in March 2009.
Chris Newberry, Bridget's husband, pleaded guilty in September 2009 to raping the girl, then setting her on fire the previous March. He faces a life prison sentence and is currently undergoing psychiatric treatment at Larned State Hospital.

Bribiesca also heard during sentencing that Bridget Newberry had relinquished parenting rights to her five children.
The girl, who survived despite suffering burns over 40 percent of her body, lives with a grandmother, who said she continues to improve.
