WICHITA — After they are sentenced to prison this afternoon, Stephen and Linda Schneider won't be finished with court proceedings.
U.S. District Judge Monti Belot this morning ordered the former Haysville doctor and his wife to be available Friday for depositions in at least four malpractice lawsuits, which remain unresolved.
The Schneiders were convicted last summer of illegally prescribing painkillers that led to the deaths of dozens of patients.
Belot is expected to pronounce their sentence on the criminal charges at 1 p.m. today.
A lawyer for former patients who have sued the Schneiders and some of their employees for malpractice damages asked Belot this morning to have the U.S. Marshals make the couple available for questioning.
Those cases are pending in Sedgwick County District Court.
On the federal criminal case, the Schneiders face 20 years to life in federal prison.
