The mercury keeps climbing as the work week reaches its climax, with highs today approaching 90 under sunny skies in Wichita. Gusty southerly winds should help the temperature in the metropolitan area rise.
Those winds will be steady in the low teens, forecasters say, with gusts of 25 miles an hour possible.
Overnight lows will bottom out in the mid-50s, with the southerly winds quieting somewhat but still touching double digits. The weekend should cool down a bit, forecasters say, with more sunny, dry conditions and highs in the low 80s and upper 70s.
As warm as today could turn out to be, it won’t threaten the record high for this date. The record is 95, set in 1979.
