GUILFORD, Mo. | The Humane Society of Missouri and Andrew County authorities have rescued 38 animals from a property near Guilford in northwest Missouri, saying they were starving with no access to food or fresh water.
The Humane Society says the animals taken today included 32 horses, four mini-horses and two goats. Two horses that recently died also were found on the property.
The rescued animals will be taken to the Humane Society's Longmeadow Rescue Ranch in Union, Mo. A disposition hearing is Nov. 29 in Savannah, Mo. The Humane Society says that if granted custody, it will put as many of the animals as possible up for adoption.
The name of the property owner was not released. It wasn't clear whether any charges were planned.
