Wichita City Hall parking is free to the public today because of malfunctioning equipment related to the relocation of parking booths, city officials said.
The booths are being relocated because of security upgrades to the City Hall parking complex. The free public parking is located in the surface lot south of the parking garage, where there are 173 parking spaces.
Starting today, the City Hall parking garage will only be accessible to employees and others who have security access cards. The security improvements and changes in public parking locations stem from recommendations from security consultants who said restricted public access to the garage is essential to improve the safety of City Hall visitors and employees.
