WICHITA — One man went to jail and another to the hospital this afternoon after they tried to swim across the Little Arkansas River near Riverside Park.
Wichita police Sgt. Jeff Davis said rescue crews were called to Waco and Murdock at 3:50 p.m. after receiving reports that two of three men who tried to swim across the river didn't make it out.
Davis said one man was pulled from the river and taken to Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis in serious condition. He said the other man was uninjured but was taken into custody on an unrelated arrest warrant.
Davis said the men, who appeared to be in their 40s or 50s, had been drinking before going into the water.
