A driver who failed to stop at a stop sign caused the accident Saturday that killed two people near US-254 and Greenwich Road, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol report.
Michael A. Turner, 45, and Lance P. Smith, 53, were killed in the accident. Both men were from El Dorado. It is unclear which of the two men were driving the Escort or whether either were wearing seat belts, according to the report.
The Ford Escort then struck a Chevy pickup truck driven by Steven Cloud, 52, of Benton. The impact of the collision forced Cloud's pickup into a2005 Nissan car that was in the next lane. Crystal Cherisse Taylor of Wichita was driving the Nissan.
Cloud and an 8-year-old passenger from Wichita were taken to Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis and treated for injuries.
The accident happened shortly before noon Saturday when the Ford Escort failed to stop at the intersection of Greenwich and US-254.
