WICHITA — Frederick Fritz, charged with nine criminal counts — including first-degree murder — is set to go on trial today.
Fritz is scheduled to appear in Judge Greg Waller's courtroom in Sedgwick County District Court from charges stemming from an August 2009 shooting in west Wichita.
He is accused of killing 24-year-old Devon E. Cole and wounding a 33-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman in the shooting, which police said took place at Morgan's Landing, 3801 W. 13th St.
Police said Fritz met the 33-year-old man at a west Wichita bar, played pool with him for a few hours and then went to the apartment to hang out with the man's friends.
Later that night, police said, Fritz went to his car, retrieved a gun, returned to the apartment and demanded money from the handful of people there. He then opened fire.
