A forklift accident killed a man, 45, at the Bannister Federal Complex this morning.
Kansas City police said the forklift driver was working on a dock at 2320 Bannister Road about 11:15 a.m. when he got too close to the edge and the forklift fell off the 3 ½-foot-high dock.
The worker, who was not identified by police, suffered a broken neck and was declared dead, officials said.
An official with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration said OSHA was looking into the accident, which occurred at the former National Archives facility.
The Federal Protective Services is heading up an investigation and is being assisted by the Kansas City police, said Charlie Cook, a spokesman for the General Services Administration, which owns the property.
Kimberlee Ried, National Archives spokesperson, said the facility is a records storage facility.
“It’s a terrible accident,” Ried said. Until the investigation is complete, she said no more information would be released.
