LAWRENCE | One of the main landmarks on the University of Kansas campus was taken down by high winds.
University officials say they had to take down one of two flagpoles above Fraser Hall after it was cracked in a recent storm. Kansas spokeswoman Jill Jess says the pole was taken down on Friday.
The poles are perched on the highest point in Lawrence. The Lawrence Journal-World reports that university officials are asking outside companies if the pole, which is more than 50 years old, can be repaired. If so, it could be replaced this week.
If not, university officials say they'll have to decide whether to replace both flagpoles so they fly at the same height.
