WICHITA — A rash of burglaries in far west Wichita prompted a police official today to urge residents not to leave garage door openers in unlocked cars and to secure attached garages.
Those precautions could have prevented a number of burglaries this month, said Wichita police Lt. Barry Von Fange.
Von Fange counted about 19 burglaries this month where thieves got easy access to attached garages.
The burglaries have been occurring in southwest and northwest neighborhoods that are unaccustomed to crime, he said.
The burglars have been striking at night, but residents still need to take precautions during the day, Von Fange said.
