WICHITA — A dispute over a girlfriend led to an early morning brawl at a Wichita park Sunday that sent five people to the hospital in critical condition with stab wounds, police said.
Four people, all between the ages of 18 and 20, have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder relating to the fight, which took place at Buffalo Park in west Wichita shortly before 4 a.m. Sunday.
After an argument over the phone, an 18-year-old man and a 16-year-old man decided to meet at the park and fight, Lt. Todd Ojile said. Both men brought several others along with them, and a few of them were carrying knives, Ojile said.
After the fight, five men between the ages of 16 and 23 ended up at two different hospitals in critical condition. Ojile said all five men have been upgraded to serious condition as of this morning.
The argument that led to the brawl involved the sister of the 18-year-old, whom the 16-year-old had recently broken up with, Ojile said.
Police believe 25 to 30 people were involved in the brawl or had direct knowledge of it, he said. Ojile said police are not looking for any more suspects in the stabbings at this time.
