Another milestone in the progress of the Christopher S. Bond Bridge project will be marked today when new ramps open on Interstate 29/35 near the Paseo Industrial District.
Highway crews will open the new exit ramp from southbound I-29/35 to Levee Road and the entrance ramp to southbound I-29/35 from Bedford Avenue. Officials say the ramps are opening six months earlier than expected.
Drivers will have better access between Levee Road and Bedford Avenue without having to get on the interstate.
The new ramps will improve highway safety because there will be fewer cars trying to dodge in and out as they try to make their way between Bedford and Levee on I-29/35, engineers say.
Never miss a local story.
The new ramps also can handle more traffic than the old ramps at the location, making it easier for drivers to merge onto the interstate.
The interchanges at Bedford Avenue and Levee roads were rebuilt as part of the $245 million bridge project, which also includes the widening of the interstate to three lanes in each direction.
The entire project is expected to be done a year from now.
