WICHITA — Several streets in downtown Wichita have reopened after a man threatening to jump off a five-story parking garage was coaxed by police into surrendering.
The streets around the parking garage at Emporia and William were closed about 4:30 p.m. after the man went to the top of the building and threatened to jump.
Capt. Troy Livingston said police negotiators talked the man into surrendering about 6:50 p.m. He said the man apparently was distraught after arguing with a wife or girlfriend.
Although the street closures disrupted parking for the Brooks and Dunn concert at the Intrust Bank Arena, Livingston said, most concertgoers easily adapted to the situation and got to the concert on time.
