Some large equipment at a north Wichita recycling operation sustained fire damage tonight, an official said.
Before crews extinguished the fire at Glickman Metal Recycling, 2829 N. Emporia, it sent up clouds of dark smoke visible from downtown Wichita.
The fire possibly spread from a smoldering debris pile, said fire Lt. John Eck.
There were no injuries.

Fire crews were dispatched about 6:50 p.m., Eck said.
He could not provide a damage estimate.
The fire possibly started in a large pile of non-metal debris left over from the recycling process, he said.
Crews used an aerial platform to spray water down on the debris. The main pile involved in the fire was about 15 feet long, 15 feet wide and 15 feet tall, Eck said.
