WICHITA — Their vehicle ended in a drainage canal and they tried to splash their way to safety, but two alleged gang members still ended up behind bars early this morning.
Officers with the gang unit attempted to pull over a GM truck at Pawnee and I-135 at about 12:40 a.m. today, police said.
The two suspects refused to stop and a short chase ensued, to about Orme and Mainfield. The suspects then bailed from the truck and ran to a drainage culvert that was full of runoff.
The truck continued to roll after they bailed, police said, and splashed into the culvert behind them. One of the pursuing officers dove into the culvert and swam after the suspects, while the second officer ran across a nearby bridge.
The two teens, ages 18 and 17, were caught in the 8300 block of East Indianapolis and arrested on suspicion of a variety of offenses.
