Fire crews remain at the scene of a multiple-alarm fire in rural Cass County that ravaged a barn that housed numerous trash disposal trucks.
The fire was reported just after 4 a.m. by a passerby who noticed thick smoke and heavy flames shoot from the Town and Country Disposal facility, located in the 23000 block of East 235th Street, just outside of Harrisonville.
The flames ignited explosions from the barn. No one was inside the facility and no injuries have been reported. Company officials suspected the explosions were caused by the trucks that had been on fire.
Heavy flames and thick smoke poured out of the structure as fire crews arrived. Additional crews from the Central Cass Fire Protection District were quickly summoned.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. No damage estimates were available, according to authorities.
