Wichita police are investigating a Sunday morning crash that killed one person and resulted in downed electrical and cable power for a north Wichita neighborhood.
The crash happened shortly after 3 a.m. at 29th and Cromwell, between North Arkansas and Amidon.
A Corvette, traveling at high speeds, struck a power pole, snapping it at its base, police said. The car then struck a tree before bursting into flames. The driver was killed.
Firefighters responding to the accident had to wait for Westar Energy to deactivate downed power lines before they could fight the fire.
