Police determined today that a suspicious object found outside a Johnson County grocery was not a pipe bomb as first feared.
About 10:15 a.m., Prairie Village officers responded to the Hen House grocery at 4050 W. 83rd St. There, they found what appeared to be an 8-inch piece of pipe, secured with caps at both ends, with wires connecting the caps.
Police from Prairie Village and Leawood cordoned off the area and called in an Overland Park bomb squad.
But the object was not a bomb. Officers discovered it was a part attached to the exterior of a milk delivery truck that contained inspection documents. The bracket apparently had broken off during a morning delivery.
