Kansas and Kansas State will meet as top-five opponents on Wednesday.
The Jayhawks, ranked first most of the season, dropped to second in the Associated Press poll and USA Today poll of coaches. Kansas State improved to fifth, its best ranking since 1962.
Kansas, 27-2, is coming off an 85-77 loss at Oklahoma State. The Wildcats beat Missouri 63-53 in their last outing.
The game in Lawrence will match the Sunflower State rivals as top-five foes for the first time since 1958. On that occasion, the third-ranked Wildcats, led by Bob Boozer, beat Wilt Chamberlain and the second-ranked Jayhawks 79-75 in double overtime.
The polls agree on the top five: Syracuse, Kansas, Kentucky, Duke and Kansas State.
Baylor, Texas A&M and Texas also appear in the polls.
