A big highway headache is in store for Kansas City motorists this morning.
Highway crews will be closing the exit ramp from northbound Interstate 29/35 to eastbound Armour Road for nine months starting at about 8:30 a.m.
The ramp is being closed to allow the redesign of the cloverleaf interchange that's already overloaded with traffic. The interchange can be dangerous because it provides short distances for cars entering and exiting the interstate.
The new interchange will feature longer, wider ramps to handle more vehicles.
The marked detour will take drivers east on Front Street to Chouteau Trafficway and then north to Missouri 210/Armour Road.
The Missouri 210/Armour Road interchange is being replaced as part of the $245 million Paseo Bridge Project, which isn't expected to be completed until June 2011. The new interchange is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
