Eastbound I-70 drivers could have frustrating commutes for the next eight months or so.
The Missouri highway department will start work this morning on a $6.7 million project to rehab nine bridges from downtown east to Van Brunt Boulevard.
Drivers will start experiencing slowdowns this morning at 6 when highway crews begin re-striping the highway and placing barriers. The work will run until 3 p.m.
The actual work on the bridges will begin next Monday and last until November. Work hours will run from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Highway crews are promising to keep open at least two lanes of traffic most of the time. On occasion, however, the highway will be down to one lane although that won't be very often. Motorists are being warned about narrow lanes as well.
Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and build extra travel time into their trip.
