WICHITA — A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty after a 3-year-old dog was gravely injured in an attack early this morning in south Wichita, police said.
A man and woman were awakened by a noise and a dog's loud yelp outside their trailer just after 1:30 a.m. today in the 3200 block of South Clifton, police said. They went outside and found the woman's dog with a serious head injury.
The woman told police she had been having problems with a neighbor ever since the dog bit one of the neighbor's children in November.
Police said it appeared the dog was struck with a piece of PVC pipe. Officers spotted two men attempting to leave the area in a vehicle.
A 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana with intent to sell and other offenses.
The dog had to be euthanized due to the severity of its injuries, police said.
