The USA Bid Committee Inc announced today that Kansas City is one of 18 cities that will be included in the United States’ bid to host matches in the World Cup soccer tournament in either 2018 or 2022.
The USA Bid Committee Inc will now submit its bid to world soccer's governing body, FIFA, in May 2010. FIFA will select host countries for the 2018 and 2022 events in December of 2010.
The decision comes five months after Arrowhead Stadium was named one of 32 sites in 27 cities on a short list to host the event. Arrowhead Stadium made a bid for the 1994 World Cup when it last was played in the United States but was not selected.
