JEFFERSON CITY | More criminal charges are expected against the owners of a southwest Missouri group home where 11 people died in a November 2006 fire.
Robert and LaVerne DuPont were scheduled to go to trial in two weeks on health care fraud, conspiracy and money laundering. But a federal judge has postponed the trial at the request of an attorney for Robert DuPont.
Springfield attorney Stuart Huffman said in a court filing that he recently learned additional charges will be filed against DuPont. He said prosecutors agreed to the trial delay.
A spokesman for the U.S. attorney did not immediately return a message Monday.
The DuPonts owned the Anderson Guest House for the mentally ill. State fire investigators have said faulty wiring in the attic likely sparked the fatal blaze.
