TOPEKA | Kansas Lottery officials are excited with news that someone in Kansas has the winning Powerball ticket from Wednesday night's drawing. The jackpot was worth $96.6 million.
Spokeswoman Sally Lunsford says the winning ticket was sold in south-central Kansas, which includes Wichita. The winner and exact location was not immediately known. She says the jackpot is the largest ever won by a ticket sold in Kansas.
The ticket matched the numbers drawn Wednesday in the multistate game. The winning numbers are 8-12-14-22-29, with the Powerball of 22.
The previous largest jackpot was won in 2000 when a group of airline pilots had one of three tickets that matched a $150 million jackpot.
Lunsford says the lump-sum award would give the winner more than $48.3 million.
