Kansas City police officers shot at a gunman early today after he stepped out of a vehicle and turned toward officers with a gun.
The officers had been chasing the suspect because they believed he was impaired. Officers first saw the suspect driving erratically near 42nd Street and Woodland Avenue just before 3 a.m. Officers tried to pull him over and the driver refused to stop. The driver hit a parked car in the 4200 block of Bellefontaine Avenue and got out brandishing a firearm, police said.
The officers fired several shots and the man ran away eastbound between some houses. Police were still looking for the suspect today. Police were not sure if he was hit by gunfire, but he had not turned up at any hospitals.
