WICHITA — Led by a police patrol car and a couple of trucks, the eastbound lanes of Kellogg over Armour and under Rock Road opened to traffic after the Wednesday morning hour.
The opening is a milestone in the three-year project to expand Kellogg and eliminate stop lights at its intersection with Rock Road — historically the city's busiest.
Westbound traffic beginning at Cypress will be shifted onto the freeway after the morning rush on Friday.
The changes will eliminate the signals for main Kellogg traffic at Armour and at Rock Road.
All north-south through lanes and all turns for Rock Road traffic will open next week, and through lanes and turn lanes for Armour/Towne East Mall Drive will open the week of Nov. 16.
The project began in February 2007, and final touches are expected to be completed early next year.
