Gov. Mark Parkinson has requested a federal disaster declaration from President Obama for six Kansas counties affected by severe storms in mid-July.
The storms between July 8 and July 14 produced high winds, large hail, lightning and torrential rains — including a significant hail storm that hammered portions of Wichita.
Total infrastructure damage costs associated with the storms are expected to exceed $3.5 million, Parkinson said in his declaration request. Counties included in the request are Sedgwick, Allen, Anderson, Bourbon, Franklin and Linn.
