Two people are fighting for their lives and a third person is hospitalized after they were shot during a robbery in west Wichita late Monday night, police said.
A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the shooting, Lt. Ken Landwehr said.
One of the victims, a 33-year-old man, met the suspect at a west Wichita bar Monday night and invited him to hang out with friends in an apartment at Morgan's Landing, 3801 W. 13th St.
At about 11:30 p.m., the suspect went to his car, retrieved a gun, returned to the apartment and demanded money from the handful of people there, Landwehr said.
He then opened fire, wounding two men and a woman. Two other women at the apartment escaped injury. The suspect then took wallets and other property from the victims and left.
Because victims were introduced to the suspect and rode with him to local stores before the shooting, they were able to provide vehicle details to police, Landwehr said.
Officers spotted the vehicle at Kellogg and Maize at about 1 a.m. and began trailing the suspect, who then turned into a parking lot of a hotel in the 8900 block of West Kellogg and surrendered.
Landwehr said a 24-year-old man shot at the apartment is in "very critical" condition, a 24-year-old woman is also hospitalized with life-threatening wounds, and the 33-year-old man who invited the suspect to the apartment was also shot and is in serious condition.
All three are being treated at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus.
Two women in the apartment at the time of the shooting, ages 24 and 21, were not injured.
There was no indication of criminal activity at the apartment, Landwehr said.
