A 40-year-old Lenexa woman was seriously injured in a three-vehicle accident involving a semi-truck and a fire in Overland Park.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the woman was driving eastbound on Interstate 435 just west of Quivira Road at about 7 p.m. when her 1994 Toyota and a semi-truck, also headed East, swerved to avoid slowing traffic.
The trailer on the semi-truck jackknifed out of control, struck the woman's car and spilled a load of about 11 metal I-beams onto the roadway. One beam hit the Toyota which then struck an eastbound 1994 Saturn. Both cars came to rest on the shoulder where a fire that started in the Toyota consumed both vehicles.
The truck driver was uninjured and the driver of the Saturn had what were described as possible injuries but was not taken from the scene to the hospital, troopers said.
