ST. LOUIS | A federal judge has ordered a psychiatric evaluation for the man accused of stealing a plane in Canada and flying over three states before landing in southern Missouri.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Thomas Mummert ordered the evaluation of 31-year-old Adam Dylan Leon during a brief court hearing Friday in St. Louis.
A preliminary hearing and a detention hearing also scheduled Friday are on hold pending the results of the evaluation, which will be performed by the Bureau of Prisons.
Leon appeared in court. When asked by the judge if he understood what had transpired during the hearing, answered "more or less."
Leon allegedly stole a single-engine Cessna from an Ontario flight school Monday and landed it more than seven hours later near a highway in Ellsinore.
